Welcome to AKFIN Wiki!
The Alaska Fisheries Information Portal.
With 563 pages as of September 18, 2021.

The Alaska Fisheries Information Network (AKFIN) is a not for profit organization funded by federal grants and managed by the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC).

AKFIN acquires data from state and federal agencies and integrates their data into an architecture that enables combined analysis based on geography, species, gear, port, vessel, processor, and more. Unlike the agency databases, the AKFIN data architecture is not determined by the need to collect and maintain fish records but is built to optimize efficiency for analytical purposes. A database such as this allows for the validation of data and insures the ability to produce consistent and reproducible results. Also, this reporting structure is scalable and easily adaptable to changing data sources and reporting needs; thereby providing a standardized repository. With this database, AKFIN is able to produce reports and data-feeds as requested from the fisheries council and research analysts. This, in turn, enables us to use our fisheries resources to their maximum extent today while ensuring their conservation for tomorrow.

This wiki is a resource provided by the Alaska Fisheries Information Network (AKFIN) to its employees and partners. The goal of this wiki is to enhance collaboration by providing easily accessible and modifiable documentation on the data warehouse design, technologies, and data itself.

WIKI Reorganization Updates
  • Main_Page banner reformatting (04/20/2010): Increased font size and colored background of the portal list to the right of the title.
  • Added the navigation boxes categories, and moved the administration list to it. Modified the administration box list to contain the File List and Add Users links.
  • Combined all the AKFIN Introduction files - listed here - into one edit contained in the Wiki's Introduction of the Main page.
  • Added an entry page for the Category:ADFG. It automatically holds all pages tagged under this category and gives a brief introduction to the data collection routes that AKFIN receives from ADFG.
  • Added a standard formatting for the entry pages for data and applied to: ADFG, AFS, AKR, CFEC, CG, EDR, and IPHC Entry pages. The list of related pages for each of these data sources are directly referenced at the bottom of the entry pages.
  • All Special:UncategorizedPages have been categorized... pfewwh!
  • All Special:UnusedCategories have been removed except two which will be used in the near future.
  • The Documentation Category no longer contains any pages which were re-categorized accordingly.
  • Completed the edition of all the Data Entry pages including the additional DMV page.
  • Added an 'Other tools' page with references and links to the most used Software Applications in AKFIN.
