The Alaska Fisheries Information Network (AKFIN) is a not for profit organization funded by federal grants and managed by the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC).

AKFIN acquires data from state and federal agencies and integrates their data into an architecture that enables combined analysis based on geography, species, gear, port, vessel, processor, and more. Unlike the agency databases, the AKFIN data architecture is not determined by the need to collect and maintain fish records but is built to optimize efficiency for analytical purposes. A database such as this allows for the validation of data and insures the ability to produce consistent and reproducible results. Also, this reporting structure is scalable and easily adaptable to changing data sources and reporting needs; thereby providing a standardized repository. With this database, AKFIN is able to produce reports and data-feeds as requested from the fisheries council and research analysts. This, in turn, enables us to use our fisheries resources to their maximum extent today while ensuring their conservation for tomorrow.

This wiki is a resource provided by the Alaska Fisheries Information Network (AKFIN) to its employees and partners. The goal of this wiki is to enhance collaboration by providing easily accessible and modifiable documentation on the data warehouse design, technologies, and data itself.
